Why celebrating International Pet Day is totally “Paw-some!”
As pet owners, we sure do love our animals.
From dogs and cats to birds, fish, lizards, and other critters, over 90 million families in the U.S. alone own a pet. Wow, right? That’s a lot of cuteness!
Luckily, International Pet Day is the purrfect opportunity to celebrate this human-animal bond.
On April 11th 2022, My Talking Pet invites you to reciprocate all the love and affection our pets so freely give us. Whether furry, feathered, or finned, we’ve got creative ideas to help make this coming International Pet Day the best one ever!
The Extraordinary Benefits of Having a Pet
No doubt about it – pets make our lives 10x better. But did you know? Scientifically speaking, the mental and physical benefits of pet ownership have actually been proven by research.
For example, pets can:
- Lower Stress Levels / Anxiety and Depression
Had a bad day? Feeling blue? Studies show that spending even 5 minutes petting a dog or cat effects our brains in a positive way. Being around pets lowers blood pressure, relaxes muscle tension, and releases “feel good” hormones like oxytocin.
- Provide Companionship
These past 2 years have been isolating for millions of people all over the world. But thankfully, many of us had loyal pets by our side! Through thick and thin, animals offer both companionship and friendship.
- Encourage Fitness
Ugh…hauling your behind to the gym can be such a drag. Fortunately, animals like dogs, horses, etc. are great for exercise. Daily walks around the block burn calories, get the heart pumping, and fill your lungs with fresh air.
- Make Us Laugh
Next, pets should be celebrated on International Pet Day for their incredible ability to make us laugh. Those goofy faces and silly antics prove that laughter really is the best medicine.
- Help People Socialize
Are you shy? Feel socially awkward or anxious in big groups? No worries. A pet can help. Animals are great listeners who don’t judge. Hang out with a cat at a party or meet up with fellow puppy parents at the dog park for stress-free social interactions.
- Teach Responsibility
Sixth on our list, pets teach children (and adults alike) how to be responsible. Buying food. Visiting the groomer. Cleaning kitty litter. It’s all a lesson on how to take care of a fellow living creature 101.
- Be Emotionally Rewarding
Lastly, pets enrich our lives on an emotional level, especially if they happen to be a rescue. Saving an animal, adopting from a shelter, and giving them a safe and warm place to call home opens your heart to the infinite kindness we are all capable of deep down.
3 Fun Ways to Celebrate International Pet Day
Now, you know why people should celebrate International Pet Day. But what about how? Below are 3 ideas.
- Spend Quality Time Together
Pets thrive on affection and attention. Block out some time today dedicated only to your four-legged friend. Snuggle on the couch. Play a game of fetch. Whatever makes them happy, do it together.
- Treats and Toys
Everyone likes yummy snacks, including pets! Pick up a bag of their favorite treats. Or buy a brand-new toy for hours of entertainment.
- Post a My Talking Pet Video on Social Media
Chances are, you share pet pics on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc. Go above and beyond on International Pet Day by posting a hilarious talking video using the My Talking Pet app! Show the world just how much you love your fur baby.
